Abdul Rehman

Abdul REHMAN (DVM, MPhil, PhD) is serving as Visiting Assistant Professor in Center for Animal Disease Modeling and Surveillance (CADMS), Department of Medicine and Epidemiology, UC Davis. Originally trained as a veterinarian, he has evolved as an early career veterinary epidemiologist with a strong passion for the epidemiology of infectious diseases with high economic and public health significance. Dr. AR received his graduation (DVM) in 2009 and MPhil (Epidemiology and Public Health) in 2012, both with distinction from University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan. Later, he earned his doctoral degree by jointly working at the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute of Epidemiology, Federal Research Institute for Animal Health, Germany and Institute of Parasitology and Tropical Veterinary Medicine, Freie Universität, Berlin, in 2016. His PhD research focused on the epidemiology of ticks and tick-borne Pathogens in the semi-arid and arid agroecological zones. He has worked on detection of novel pathogens using advance molecular methods, spatial analysis, statistical modeling and data analytics. He has contributed to understand the epidemiology of several zoonotic diseases including Q-fever, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, tick-fever, Brucellosis and Leptospirosis and their association with bio-climatic factors. He remained involved in developing surveillance plans, efficient diagnostic tools, risk mapping and policy documentation for the control of infectious diseases. He has been a part of consultative meetings and workshops organized by the animal health authorities including FAO, WAOH, and Fleming Fund, UK for developing guidelines for surveillance of antimicrobial resistance. Besides, he has produced trained human resource for veterinary and public health sectors through mentoring postgraduate research, organizing trainings and workshops. Currently, he is working on the epidemiology of infectious diseases of livestock including zoonotic infections and AMR-related issues.
